WELLINGTON CENTRAL SEAT.
GREY LABOR (PROTEST. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Greymouth, Last Night. The Grey Labor Representation Committee has carried and forwarded to the central ex'ecutive the following resolution: "That we Btrongly protest against the vote-splitting tactics of Mr. Mack, general secretary of the A.S.S.S., in standing as an Independent Labor candidate for Wellington CentraL" DIVIDING OF LABOR VOTE. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Wellington, Sept. 17. The dividing of the Labor vote is regarded as the most interesting feature of the by-electioa. It has been assumed very widely during the last week that the Labor nominee would capture the seat, and there seems little doubt that united Labor could beat the National Government candidate in Wellington Central in a straight contest, But the official Labor nomination has gone to Mr. P. Fraser, who represents the extremist wing, and Mr. M. «T. Mack, secretary of the Amalgamated Society of i Railway Servants, intends to stand as an Independent Laborite. He will get the support of a large section of moderate Labor, and the split thus caused may have far-reaching effects.
