■«>— ■■— PUXGAREHU. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The wind-up of the series of functions in aid of the fund for Pungarehu soldier?' Christmas comforts took the shape of a plain, and fancy dress ball, and proved very successful, though, owing to counter attractions along the coast, there was not quite as large an attendance as usual. The hall had been tastefully decorated with flags, etc. Mr. W. Cooper was M.0., the music being supplied by Mrs. Pope- Mr- B. A. La-yard contributed an extra. There were a number in fancy dress, the prizes being won by Miss Rawlinson (night), anil Mr, W. Cooper (bushranger). Among those present in fancy dress were: Misses Grenville, Red Cross nurse; Dot Grenvillc, gipsy; H Wright, Japanese; Messrs B. A. Layard, African chief; and E. Pope, doctor. A dainty supper was provided by the ladies. In all over £SO has been collected, which is sufficient to send each lad farewelled from Pungarehu. a parcel of comforts valued at about £,'2. The cakes have already been despatched, and on Saturday evening a meeting is to be held to pack- the parcels. Cash will be remitted to Private P. Perrot, who is a prisoner of war in Germany. Cs.pti'.in and Mrs Knight have left to take up their residence in Puniho. They will be greatly missed here, especially in patriotic matters,
