ELTHAM.

(From Our Own Correspondent) Eltham, Sept. 14. The opening of the new premises of the- C.E.M.S. Club on Friday evening proved, a very popular function, nearly 300 being present. Mr. T, C- Stanners, president, in the course of his remarks, eulogised the generosity of Mr. C. A. Wilkinson in donating the land whereon the building stood, valued at between £7OO and £BOO. He also referred to the work of the previous vicar, Rev. G W- Dent, in pushing forward the inter ests of the club, and also touched on the sterling work of Mr. W- Harvey, who had been secretary for a long period, and that of Mr. G. W. Bennett, who was always ready to do his utmost to Secure the successful results achieved. The membership now stood at over 200. and he trusted the club would continue to have a prosperous career. Other gentlemen who addressed those present were: Mr. C. A. Wilkinson, member for Egmont: Mr. T. B. Crump, Mayor; Archdeacon E.eeve, Wanganiri; and Mr. Geo. H. Buckeridge. It was pointed out that the club welcomed all returned soldiers, and, after a stay of six months, they may become members at a small memberdiip fee. A very good musical programme was submitted, the following contributing songs::—E E- Carter, IF. Silver, an A H. Andrews; and recitations by E. Parrott and J. W. Harrison.
