TRAMWAYS DISPUTE.
■MEN' REPOSE; OFFER.. I By Telegraph.—Press ■■ Association, Wellington, Sept. 9. The Tramways Union held a special meeting yesterday to consider the City Council's offer that the 5 per cent, war bonus should apply to the ordinary wages now in vogue. The union declined the offer, on the grounds that 5 per cent- was inadequate to meet the additional cost of living, that granting the whole of the men's demands would not necessitate increased fares, that last year the chiefs of the tramways' department received increases ranging from £25 to £2OO per annum, and no mention was made of increased fares to meet these. The union decided to ask the Transport Advisory Doard to meet immediately to consider the position.
