ANNIVERSARY OF THE MARNE. IN AMERICA. I . ' Received Sept. 9, 8.40 p.m. New York, Sept. 7. The anniversary ot the battle of the Ma'hie and the birth of Lafayette were jointly celebrated by impressive ceremonies, at which the Allied nations were represented. General Foeh, President 3 Poincare, and General Pershing sent; messages to the American people. M. Poincare said: "At the Marne France defended the liberty of herself and mankind. In the name of France I send America a message of fidelity, affection, and admiration." General Pershing's message ran: "Oni the anniversary of the great battle all people who love liberty and hate oppression unite in admiration of and gratitude to the gallant soldiers of France and Britain, who turned back the enemy--9 hordes, making possible the present glorious victory, •which will save civilisation."
