The blues attacked at once, and kicked a fine penalty, but the reds took the offensive, and. from passing bouts, Hirst and Boag scored McLeod converted the lattor's try. In the second half play was pretty equal, but the reds had better backs, and McLeod scored a third try for the visitors, and kicked a goal. The game ended: Canterbury, 13; Otago 3. WELLINGTON DEFEATS AUCKLAND. Wellington, Sept. 7. Auckland and Wellington Rugby teams met here to-day, there being a big crowd. Wellington won bv 23 points to 14. In the first spell Auckland ran up to 11 tn nil. L. McLean kicked a penalty goal, .1. Thomas got n try, and Laxon a try, which McLean converted. In the second spell Wellington scored two minutes after the start, C. Thomas touching down. Then Wilson scored for Auckland, and Morris got a try for Wellington, which Nlcholls converted. Nlcholls shot a penalty goal; then came tries for Wellington by Albert Parker, Arthur Parker, Eberhardt and B. Thomas. THE ASSOCIATION GAME. I CANTERBURY DEFEATS WELLINGTON. Chrislehureh, Sept. 7. Canterbury defeated Wellington to-day by one goal to nil In the Brown Shield challenge match (Association game). A match was played on Saturday between members of B Company, 441 h Reinforcements, who are at prcsr'' on leave, and a team representing New Plymouth The game was a most interesting one throughout, and resulted in a win for the military representatives by i) points to 8. For the winners, tries were scored by Corporal Bradbury and Privates Fusscll and Fulton. For New Plymouth Tichbon and Boswell scored tries, the latter's score being converted by Sutherland. Mr. G. McMillan was referee.
