Johnstone left for Auckland by the Rimu on Saturday in order to attend the sittings of the Supreme Court at Hamilton. Mr. H. T. Bishop, of Egmont Road, has received word that his son, Sergt. A. Bishop, has been wounded and sent to hospital in England. Members of the Stratford Club entertained Dr. T. L. Paegt on Friday and made a presentation, accompanied by hearty good wishes for his success and safe and speedy returnThe Rev. H. 1,, and Mrs. Richards left New Plymouth for Auckland by the Rimu, on Saturday, on account of the very serious illness of Mrs. Richards' father. Mr, J. James, Cover Street, has received advice that his son, Private Edward James, has been admitted to hospital in England on August 29 suffering from a gunshot wound in the right hip. Mr. T. P. Smith, who goes into camp on Wednesday next, was on Saturday made a presentation of a wristlet watch by his fellow employees of the Borough Council. Mr. Smith has been an employee of the borough for about 22 years. Lieutenant Grierson returned from France on duty, and he is now attached to the 45th Reinforcements, awaiting his opportunity of returning to the front. His action for libel against Dr. Thacker will 'be heard before he returns. Mr. and Mrs. J. Rowlands received the sad news on Saturday that their son, Private Eric Rowlands, had been killed in action in France. Private Rowlands, who left with the 18th Reinforcements, was employed for several years by the Mangorei Dairy Company, and at the time he enlisted was head butter-maker of the company. A message from Auckland states that Mr. M. Rudd, formerly manager at New Plymouth for the Union Steamship Co., who is leaving the northern city for Dunedin, was farewelled at the Chamber of Commerce on Saturday, and presented by f's merchants of the city with a silver tea and coffee service and a purse of 145 sovereigns. Gunner T. H. Walsh, late of Urnti, died from wounds on August 20. Gunner Walsh enlisted with the 2nd Reinforcements, leaving New Zealand in November, 1914, seeing service at Gallipoli, Ismailia, and along the Suez Canal, leaving for France with the first New Zealand troops, where he saw continuous service until the time of his death. News has come to Mr. N. Meuli, of Wanganui, of the death in actidh of his son, Lawrence. He left New Zealand in October, 1016, as a sergeant with the 18th Reinforcements, and on arrival at Sling was detained there for instructional purposes. He was promoted to the rank of sergeant-major, and when the latest news was received from him in Franqe he was expecting to return to England for a commission. His many friends will be sorry to hear of his demise. As a prominent representative of Rugby football and in the commercial world "Bob" was- exceedingly popular (says the Chronicle). In business he had a good future before him. He was the second son of Mr. Meuli. The youngest was on Gallipoli, and has returned to New Zealand. The eldest son, Mr. John Meuli, goes into camp in January
