RAILWAY TRAFFIC DISORGANISED.
BY HEAVY SLIPS. The heavy rain that fell on Friday, particularly in the Wanganui district, was responsible for considerable disorganisation of the railway service on Saturday, including the complete inter~ ruption of railway and road communication with Wellington. Slips between Wanganui and ETawera caused some delay, the first train from Wanganui reaching Hawera at about 2J30 .p.m., nearly three hours late. The mail train also arrived at about 7.15 pm., nearly an hour and a-half late, reachins here after 8 p.m. Heavy slips at Wangaehu and Fordell had completely blocked the line south. of Wanganui. rendering communication impossible. It was also stated that the rond was rendered impassable for mo-tor-cars, so that it was not possible for passengers or mail to proceed. The New Plymouth mail, therefore, was only able to get as far as Wanganui. i>> turning with passengers and mail only from as far south as Wanganui. There wore also slips on the Whangamomona line, and on •Friday eveni;icr the train was unalMe to proceed beyond Huiroa. Slips were also reported it Whangamomona, but the olfieials were hopeful of getting a train through on Saturday night.
