The other accused was Noel Golds-bm-y, accountant and assistant secretary to the Christchurch Technical College Captain Livingston said Goldshury had been called in the 18th hallot in May last. 'His case was an unusual one, in that had accused not laid himself open to the present charge, he might have been excused service, since he helonged to a religious body which did not approve of military service, and the beliefs of which were respected by the Act There was, however, 'by the Act, no immunity from medical examination, and the manual of military laws made it quite clear that religious scruples offered no justification for neglect or refusal to ohey orders. Accused might contend that lie was entitled to have his appeal heard before V-ing called upon' for medical examination, hut there was no justification for Ib<\t contention. The case was adjourned to enable accused to call witnesses.
