LEAVE FOR LONG SERVICE MEN.
STATEMENT BY MINISTER. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, last 'Might. Sir James Allen, referring to the granting of leave to long-service men with the Expeditionary Force, said: — We have authorised the return to New Zealand or" 50 men per month on duty furlough. This furlough is to be given in turn to all men who have served three years in the war, and special Wave ■<ij to be given to men who wish to return on urgent business. There will be difficulties in the carrying out of the scheme, and much depends on the 'shipping facilities available. We must bring back our sick and wounded men in order to relievo the hospitals at Howe. The selection of the men to set leave will be made in every ease at the front, even in the case of men who are required back in New Zealand for business reasons this will apply, but the recommendation in every ease will have to come from this end, the reason being that we here are in the besl position to make inquiries as to who* i tber there are good reasons for the re* turn of a particular man.
