A HIM SENSATION AT THE EMPIRE, "EMPTY .POCKETS." The picture exhibitors of America have formed themselves into a league to buy good films. They sit in judgment under the name of the National Exhibitors' League, and every week they buy one special picture that they think is the best of all those produced. This is how it •is that some pictures come here bearing the name 'First National.' "Empty Pockets" is a first National picture. It opened a three night season at the. Empire Theatre last night, and is a film version of the action story "Empty Pockets," as written by -Rupert Hughes. It is doubtful whether any picture has ever moved off at such an express speed, and kept the pace of its action up so. long. It is doubtful also whether such an insoluable mystery has ever before been devised. The east includes Ketty Galanta, Babara Castleton, Bert Lytell, and Malcolm Williams. The latter takes the role of a millionaire about town who has a special weakness for girls with copper-colored hair. He is found murdered, and live women, all wit'k red hair, arc implicated, because in the dead man's hand is found a knot of hair of that color. The plot retains a remarkable clarity, in spite of complications and all sorts of cross currents which go to increase the mystification, The ending is very dramatic and unexpecting. An exceedingly interesting love story runs through, the whole texture. There is no increase in price and patrons can reserve their seats at Collier's. EVERYBODY'S. WILLIAM FARNUM IN FAIR." An extra special double feature programme is s'howing at Everybody's tonight and to-morrow. William Farnum will star in the Fox Film "Playing Fair," a powerful story of modern business methods with plenty of the hustle characteristic of th'e Panuim pictures. This is the picture that failed to arrive last Thursday, but it is now in hand and available for screening to-night tmu to-morrow only. Supporting this film t'here is a Mutual de 'use feature, "Miss Jacky of the Navy," with Margarita Fischer in the leading role. It is a bright sparkling comedy drama and picture patrons only need to be told that it is quite as good as her last picture, "The Pearl of Paradise," to realise what a treat is in store to-night.
