The game was fairiy closely contested, but Wellington showed an all-round superiority which told in the end. The first spell ended in favor of Canterbury by 8 to 7. Napier, August 31. The match between Auckland Grammar School and Te Aute was played at it' Lean Park to-day in fine weather, under perfect conditions, 'being witnessed by about iOOO spectators. It was a .fine, spectacular, fast game throughout, characterised icy sparkling, open play by the Auckland boys, whose perfect unity of action quite outclassed their opponents. The passing rushes were very effective. The game was played under the new Auckland system. Auckland won by 215 to 3, tries 'being made by Badelv (2), Grierson, Taylor. Porter, Kronfeldt, and Hardy, one of which was converted by M'CuHough, who also kicked a penalty goal, Te Aute scored from a penalty kick. THE INVERCARGILL TOURNAMENTInvercargill, August 31. The High Schools' football tournaments took place to-day, under very unfavorable conditions, the ball being wet and greasy, and prevented much back play. The games contested were mainly forwards. Southland High School beat Otago High School bv 0 points (two tries) to 5 points (a converted try). The Otago backs showed flashes of clever combined play, but Southland forwards dominated the game. Timaru beat Christchurch High by 0 points (an unconverted try and a penalty goal) to 3 (an unconverted try), tho play being very even- Timaru forwards were considerably the stranger, but the Christcliurch backs were apparently a clever combination.
