The farewell tendered Miss L. M. Spence iu the Coronatiou Hail, Toko, attracted a large attendance. The young lady has been engaged in school duties there for over two years, and in her spare hours has interested herself i:i patriotic work, particularly the Soldiers' Comforts Fund. The pleasant duty of making the presentation fell to Messrs J. Kilpatrick and Max Gernhoefcr, who, although pleased to testify to Miss Spenee's qualities as a teacher and a worker, keenly regretted the departure of one who had striven to give her best. As a memento of appreciation, Miss Spence was presented with a manicure set and a sih'er parse. Iu reply. Miss Spence thanked all for kindness shown to lier during her stay in Toko, and expressed the wish that her friends, when passing Waiongona, her new school, would give her a cull. Mrs. M'Laren contributed a song "Oh, Dry Those Tears," also the Cockney recitation, "Spotty," other contributors being Hiss Seott, Mr. Rae, and Miss Fergusson- For the dance, MrsBianehi played, extras being given by Mrs. Tuck, Misses Eileen Kelly and A. Seott and Mr. Cureen. Messrs Gernhoefer and J. Kilpatriek were the M.'sC., and carried out these duties to the satisfaction of all. COPPER TRAIL. Mr. J. H. Thorn 'i m has been appointed chairman and Mr. D. M. Clarke secretary to the pin in and fancy dress ball to be held on Thursday, September 19. Proceeds are in aid of the Copper Trail, and already a good demand has set in for tickets. Prizes donated for fancy dress costumes have been received from Messrs C- E James and O'Leary, and it is that other business people or farmers will donate cash or trophy for the same rmrpose. Word reaches we that there is a likelihood of the Xew Plymouth Male Citoir =ubmittinz a programme at the Town Hall in aid of the Copper Trail. A good deal of interest is taken in the progress of the Male Choir, and it will be sorn"thing more than a novelty to have these talented auiateus here for one night. Messrs J. W. McMillan (Mayor), ,T. S. M'Honald. J. W Boon, C. Martin, -T. S. Rowe (organiser), and II T. Cooper (secretary) were present at the executive meeting. Mr. IT. Good reported that the sevpn-a-side tournament had been arranged for September 26. Seven teams had entered, and gold medals would be presented to the winning team. It was decide_to start the canvass for subscriptions straight away.
GENERAL. Stratford, particularly Broadway, is its old self once more. After an absence of several weeks through indisposition, Constable Hleosel lias resumed duties, and his town and country friends, are .pleased to see tlie genial policeman once wore on duty after undergoing a severe operation. "May his years lie long with ujj," is the wish of all here. T. Lamason's Saturday sale is advertised for Saturday, when a quantity of harness and saddles, poultry, and sundries will be sold. T. LAMASON'S WEEKLY REPORT. Last Saturday my usual weekly sale was held, when we had a very good entry of poultry. Good liens and are in good demand. I quote as follows: Rtns. 2s 6d to 4s 0d; ducks, "2s Gd to 4a; cockerels, 2a to 3s Od; roosters, 2s to as Potatoes, very scarce, 10s to 12a cwt. Cabbaggs and cauliflowers: No supply; demand good. Parsnips, 7s to 10s sack; carrots, ss; apples, 2s 6d to 10s case Furniture and sundries at usual auction rates.
