THE EMPIRE. B.UDYARD'S MASTERPIECE. "THE JEWEL OF DESIRE" OR "THE NAUDAKHA." The filmatisation of RudyarA Kipling's celebrated masterpiece is an event both in the picture world and in the literary "world, and no lovers of England's foremost writer should miss the opportunity of seeing him on the screen. Antonio Moreno takes the part of the young hustler from the backblocks of Colorado and does as fine work as ever, while; the. world-famed dancer, Doraldina, captivates the onlooker with her astonishing teVpsichorean performances. Her dances are indeed redolent of the sensuousluxury and langour of the East. The part of tlie American girl who deemsherself called upon to save the women of ■ India is filled by Helen Chatwick, while the opium-sodden rajah, who owns the Naulahka jewel, is admirably portrayed by Warner Oland. The story is so "Well known that it is-unnecessary to recapitulate it. It will be recaled how tiro Colorado townships each aspired to get the same railway, and a young mail from one of these towns undertook to get the 'great jewel, the Neulahka, for the wife of the railroad president, so that the railway would come to his town. Also how tiie girl he loVed went to India, oh a medical mission and how they met there; and what hairbreadth escapes he had in trying to get the jewel, and how they both reached home again eventually and* the town of Topaz got the railway. The mysterious magnificence and glamor of India is perfectly reproduced, and with the cast as above mentioned it goes without saying that the picture is artistically perfect. Pathe is to be congratulated on the achievement. This remarkable picture was screened to a large and wildly enthusiastio audience last night, and will again be showing to-night and finally to-morrow. EVERYBODY'S, MARY MILES MINTER IX "HER COUNTRY'S CALL." The charming little Mutual leading lady, Mary Miles Minter, is the star in a rousing patriotic drama, "Her CounCall,'' at Everybody's tonight and to-morrow. In this picture "Little Mary" has a pleasing part, that of a wild little mountain girl, who is supposed to be the daughter of an outlaw. How Mary learns to love a soldier, also sounds a bugle call which saves the garrison, and finally turns out to be the daughter of the colonel of the regiment, makes five reels of intensely interesting photodrama. There is a capital selection: of supporting films with, this programme.
