THE WAR SITUATION. STATEMENT BY SIR R. BORDEN. Ottawa, August 24. Sir R. Borden, who is returning from the Imperial Cabinet, states that the arrival of United States troops has forced the Allied commanders to the necessity of remaining on the defensive. The victory of the last few weeks would 'have been impossible unless the American reserves had been available. This is a most effective and harmonious co-opera-tion between the United States, France and Britain. The Canadians captured" 10,000 prise ners in the recent advance, and 150 cannon. The future of the world's peace depends on the tion of the United States and BritainTogether they could ensure equality of opportunity for the smaller nationalities and backward races, thus giving much hope for a future league of nations. The mastery of the air is rapidly passing to the Allies.—Press Assoc.
