INGLEWOOD.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Inglewood, August 24. On Friday afternoon a very pleasant gathering was held at the residence of Mrs. C. A. Hamerton, the occasion being a farewell to Mrs. G. .Hobb.i, who is leaving the district to take up her residence at Hawera. Mrs. Hamer'on, sen., in a very neat speech, referred *o Mrs. Hobbs' many good qualities, and expressed regret at losing such a valued member of the community, and the guest was asiked to accept a handbag as a slight token of the esteem in which she was held. Mrs, Hobbs suitably replied-

Local residents have been frequent visi. tors to 'New Plymouth during the week, the principal attractions being concerts and the fancy dress ball. However, the visits were not without mishaps. It appears that a well-known Pukeho resident took a party of friends to the dance and aiout twp o'clock in the mornin was somewhere Lepperton, when the car refused to go any further. All efforts to tempt "Ljzzie' to proceed were tried, but without success, when it was suddenly discovered that the benzine tank was empty. As no other cars happened to be on the road, the party had to travel the remainder c* the journey on foot, and arrived home at about five in the morning, vowing that it is the last time they will trust themselves with their Pukeho friend. The Red Cross Mart in aid of the Copper Trail had a very busy day. Spring flowers were in st.'ong evidence, and a plentiful ?upplv of and produce readilj' found purchasers/" The proceeds are not yet available, but the trail must have benefited very considerably.
