GOLF.

The first Thursday round of the New Plymouth Golf Club's championship was played on Thursday, hut, owing to the very heavy rain, only two pairs completed tho round. The results were:— Dr. Wade beat W. H. Wood, 5 up and 3; A. S. Hasoll heat W. P. Nicoll, 3 up and 2; P. G. Newenbam forfeited to G. Gudgeon. Next Thursday Dr. Wade plays G. Gudgeon; A. 1 Hasell, a bye.

The first Saturday round will be played to-day, for which the following is the draw: —A. Pewley plays .T. Milne and R. H. Bloxam plays" .T. Austin. Tho following have byes in the first round: -47 S. Johns. J* Paton, AY. IX. Robertshaw, P.. W. D. Robertson. G. Grey,' R. Addenbrooke.

Players are requested to noto and observe the local rule:— All rushes and water between the 13th and 14th holes constitute a water hazard.

STRATEORID OLTJB. There was a good competition for the Medal Match, donated by Mr. ,T. S. Lyons. The donor, however, proved a lion in the path of others and annexed his own trophy, which he generously donated back to the club for a ladies' competition- The best cards in yesterday's games were:—
