DAIRY PRODUCE STORAGE.
POSITION IN SOUTH TARANAKI. At the annual meeting of the West Coast Refrigerating Company at Patea on Wednesday, the storage position was reviewed by Hie chairman (Mr A. B. Pease). There was, he said, available at Patea, 1)3,000 crates cheese; at Hawera, 25,000 crates cheese; at Kaupokontii, 15,000 crates cheese; at Mangatoki, ,8000 crates cheese; to be added at Ha-' wera, 14,000 crates; at Kaupokomii, 13,000 crates; further proposed additions at Patea, 15,000; total then available, 183,000 crates cheese. The additions outlined as above at Hawera comprise the insulation of the Lloyd George Hall, a, lease of which lias been taken from the Winter Show Company; the present plant, with the addition of more piping, will just cope with the addition at these works. At Kaupokonui an additional room SO x ,40ft is being built, and additional plant installed to cope with the work there. At Patea it is proposed, if required, to add a new building 80ft x 00ft at the north end up to the extremity of the company's lease. All the necessary hardwood piles and capping have been purchased, and arrangements made for timber, roofing, and insulation for this job, also enquiries made for an additional refrigerator to help the present plant. The position as at August la of this year and last year is as follows: 1017-*-In store as at August 12, 17,170; received during' August, 1379; September, 12,228; October, 10,631; November, 30,235; total, 77,009; shipments up to end of November, 22,170, leaving or, hand at end of November, 55,493. 1918—In store at end of August, 64,631; probable receipts as at end of November, 00,4!)3: total, 12. r i,124; probable shipments end of November, 25,000; balance, 100,124; same period last year, 55,493; excess this year, 44,031. On the aforementioned figures, and providing the shipments are the same, there will be 44,631 crates in store this year as at November 30 in excess of what was in store at the same period last year. The eveess storage to meet this, over what was available last year, will be: At Patea, 34,000 crates cheese; at fci.v were, 14,000; at Kaupokonui, 14.000; at Patea if north building added 14,000; total, 70,000. The receipts from November to end of season of last year were 110,000 cases cheese, whilst the shipments from November to August 10, 101S-. wtere 95,128 pases. From the above fisnires. In store end at November 30, 100,124 cases cheese; receipt from November to end of season, 110,000; total, 210,124; shipments from November 30, 1017, to August 10, IDIS. 05.125; probable in store August 10, 191(1, 114,090. We had on hand at .Tune 30, 1!)18, 74,154 cases cheese, and presuming the same rate of shipments are maintained this season there would be on hand at Juno 30, 1019, 124,871 cases cheese. The crux of the whole position lies in the ability of anyone to say how shipments will be maintained during the coming season. According to the figures already shown we can have storage available for some ISO.OOO cases cheese. By the end of November we will have 125,120 cases, providing no shipments are made from August 12 to November, 1918, but last year during this period we shipped 22,170 cases; it is therefore reasonable to assume that some shipments will be made during that period
