DISTRICT NEWS.
OMATA. (From a Correspondent.) Once again the Omata Guild is appealing to the people of the district for comforts for Christmas parcels. We should like to impress on those wishing to assist by providing material for parcels, that all food stuffs should be packed in securely sealed tins, with a message signed by the giver pasted on the '-iside. Glass jars, etc., cannot be sent and cigarettes could be packed in $ touaivo tin and sealed with paper. By following these directions andi sending in only the goods mentioned, our friends will" help very considerably. All gifts should be in by August both? Intending donors are asked for cash donations to defray postage, and for any of the following: jam,' iioßcy, sweets, pastes, fish, tobacco, cigarettes, rex cheese, soups (all in tinssealed). All the men who acknowledged their last Christmas parcels spoke of the pleasure of seeing the familiar names on the articles received, and regretted they could not find time to write to each separate donor. Lately, Frank Clemow wrote to express his pleasure at seeing the good old Omata names in his parcel, -and Roy 'Mace especially mentions something that, evidently he much appreciated —a tin of honey from Mrs Pease. Owing to the many other outside calls made on our school children, we cannot this year ask I hem to help in a body as they delighted in loing last year, but if any child wishes us to include a little gift or even a message only in any particular parcel, we shall be very pleased to do, so. In fact, the more messages we are asked to forward, the more the men will be gratified. We should like to point out the call for the Christmas pudding fund did not come from the Guild as has been erroneously stated, but emanated from Wellington, On 30th of this month 'the Okato Choral Society have kindly offered to produce a fine entertainment in the Omata TTall, in aid otf this Christmas Parcel Fuml. This should prove a si'-cess financially, a c there has been a dearth of concerts in Omnia the last two years. All who desire to hear some fine singing should not mips tliis chance of an enjoyable evening near at home- The performers will include a leading Auckland soprano and Captain Allen. A dance will follow the concert. All are asked to buy tickets, especially those who think they may not be able to attend, as this is one of those small ways, in which every one can help to swe\l the funds for "otir iboys" parcels. Gifts of socks, mittens, and writing smnwinions will also he desirable at this season. The Guild earnestly requests all members to rave tins of all descriptions. M present they .require large quantities 'if tobacco tins, honey, treacle (21h nn<? 71hi and custard tins. Those having Jib Bell tea fins on hand are asked to send to the guild or to the Patriotic depot, St. Anhyn street. New Plymouth. Fvcrv empty tin should be saved, as it will almost surely he needed if not just at present. 1
