The bulk of this year's metal has had to be hauled to the extreme limits of the borough. ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT. The Electrical Department manager (Mr R. H. Bartley). reported: A start has been made with the varnishing ot car bodies and the overhaul of the motors, etc., and one car has been completed and in traffic again. As soon as the weather is favorable I propose to effect some repairs to the track and to road adjacent to same in Devon street east, but before any money is spent in this direction, it is absolutely necessary to secure some means of draining the track foundation in this locality.' The business in connection with the Lighting Department still continues to increase, and during the month, 22 applications for the supply have been registered, £8 connections have been made to the mains and 8 additions made to to existing installations. The Waiwakaiho river still remains too high to remove much of the shingle deposited at the intake as mentioned in my report of last month.
