Private S. D. Pope, of New Plymouth, has 'been promoted to staff-sergeant in the Army Pay Department. In the latest hospital report published V. W. L- Stanton ('New Plymouth) and H,;S. Anderson (Stratford) are among the not severe cases.
Among members of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force mentioned in recent dispatches by Sir Douglas Ilaig is Second - Lieutenant. G. T. Weston, of Christchureh.
A cable message to the Australian papers state that Sir Thomas Mackenzie (High Commissioner for New Zealand) handed to Professor Sir -Ernest Rutherford the Hector medal, awarded for scientific research.

Friends will be interested to learn that Mrs Hi lie lias just received a cable advice from. Captain J. B. Hine, M.P., stating that he has reached Egypt all well, and is'rejoining his regiment at crnce. At Alexandria Captain Hine saw Mr Charles Bayly, who had been sent down frotti the front for medical treatment, owing to an attack of rheumatism. —Stratford Post.
