THE MOTOR-CAR CASE.
SECOND MAX BEFORE THE COURT.

Hawera, Yesterday. Ai a sitting of the Court this morning, before Messrs VV. Cowern and E. Dixon, J.'sP., a young man named Jack Johnson (Mr. P. O'Dca) was charged that he did, on July 1, steal one Dodge motor-car. valued at £43,), the proptry of Xevvton King.
Samuel Walter Moult, mechanical engineer, an 'employee in the ABC Motor Garage, Wellington, deposed that he first saw accused in the early part of July, when he came into the parage looking for the owner of car TI4S, and, later, came looking for a man named il'Kinnon, whom he appeared to be very anxious to find. Witness saw accused again on July 15, the day the car was recovered. He asked for the car, and wftness told him to go to the police Station. Witness recognised the car outside the court as the one wnicii the police recovered. M*Kinnon claimed the car as his.
Evidence waa also given by George William Lawrence, foreman in Magnus, Sandersonfs garage, Wellington; Patrick Lynch, foreman for the same firm; and Plain-Clothes Constable Burnett, Wellington, which was of a formal nature. The statement of accused was also put in. Mr. O'Dea submitted that there was insufficient evidence ,to warrant the Bench committing accused for trial, but the Bench decided otherwise, and accused was committed for trial at the next sittings of the Supreme Court at New Plymouth.
Accused pleaded not guilty, and re< served his defence.
Bail was fixed at, accused in £IOO, one surety of £IOO or two of £SO each.
