IN NORTHERN RUSSIA,
SUCCESS OF ALLIES' CAMPAIGN. Received August 14, 7.25 p.m. Ottawa, August 1". The Ministry of Information at London cables that the Allies campaign in Northern Russia has opened successfully, the population greeting the Allies enthusiastically. The Bolsheviks hardly resisted. Great quantities of rolling stock and many ihatterics have been eapti'.red- The Bolsheviks arc doing their utmost to overwhelm the Czechs before the Allied aid can reach them.
The Bolsheviks have made an agreement with the Germans, whereby the Germans are not to advanca in order to enable the Bolsheviks to transfer their forces against the Czechs. The Anti-Bolsheviks are growing in power and have defeated the Bolsheviks ir. the Caspian region. The Bolsheviks and Germans in South Archangel number 13,000. Official circles in London are unable to confirm the repiyt as to the flight of Lenin and Trotsky, and doubt its accuracy.—Press Assoc.
THE TROUBLES SPREADING. GERMAN"!' SENDING TROOPS FROM THE WEST. Received August 14, 7.40 p.m. Amsterdam August 13. The Telegraaf states that Germany has sent Landstrum troops from Flanders to Russia. The Vossisehe Zeitimg frankly admits that the Brest Litovsk treaty is a deadletter. The situation is drifting towards a renewal of the war. Copenhagen, August 13. Several thousand armed Ukrainian peasants are resisting the Gerrjan attempts to seize the harvest.and sanguinary engagements are proceeding. Fresh German troops have been ordered to the Ukraine to suppress the beginnings of the revolution.
GERMANS' CONCERN
AN ENTENTE NOTE TO LENINReceived August 14, 51.15 p.m. Amsterdam, August li». An important conference regarding Russian affairs was held at German headquarters at which von Hintz and von Helfferich were present. The Tageblatt demands the immediate summoning of the Reichstag to discuss affairs relating to Russia, Finland, Ukraine and Poland.
Moscow reports, via Berlin, state that the Entente has demanded within three day R an explanation as to Lenin's utterance that Russia was declaring war against French and British imperialism, and also demanded the reason for the French military mission being forbidden to leave Moscow—Aus.-N.Z. MILITARY PREPARATIONS. OF GERMANS AND FINNS. Received August 14, 9.15 p.m. Copenhagen, August 13. There are great German-Finnish military preparations on the Norwegian frontier. CZECHO-SLOVAKS. ,THEIE NATIONALITY RECOGNISED. BY GREAT BRITAIN. Received August M, 7.40 p.m. London, August 13. The Press Bureau states:—The Government has issued a declaration that Britain regards the Czecho-Slovaks as an Allied nation, and recognises the unity of the three Czech-Slovak armies as an Allied belligerent raging regular war fare against Austro-Hungary and Germany. Britain also recognises the right of the Czecho-Slovak National Council as the present trustee of the future Czechoslovak Government to exercise supreme j authority over this army.—Press Assoc.
