TOTALIOATQR INSPECTOR AX APPOINTMENT HADE. By Telegraph.—Preß9 Association. Chrretelrareh, Last Night. Mr P. J. Kelleher, chief clerk of tho* Internal Affairs Department has been appointed inspector to tot&featora, and ■will supervise the "working of the machines at Riccarton and Aldington this Week. This will be the inauguration by the Government of a new system in connection with the management of the totalis.itor. Mr Russell, Minister of Internal Affairs, in telegraphing to the Canterbury Jockey Olub and* tihe Metropolitan Trotting Club announcing the Cabinet's approval of Mr Kcliehor's appointment, says that hi s duties will fbe to act as inspector within the totalisaitor house, and to see that the figures for each race are accurately compiled and displayed before the race starts, in order that mentg of the few may, iii future, lie strictly carried out, and until he appends hi 3 certificate of accuracy of the total no race will be allowed to start- The figures approved by him will be those fe shown, on tho totalisaitor for each horse and for the grand total.
