COMMANDEERED MEAT.

FURTHER MEETING OF PRODUCERS, Tn view of the telegraphed reply received from the Minister by Mr. Hawken, a further large meeting of producers, representative of the whole of South Taranaki, was held at T-lawera on Saturday afternoon. Mr. Hawken presided, and read the telegram already published. He said it was satisfactory that Ihe Minister was agreeable tnat representatives should go to Wellington to interview liini, but it was significant. that the question was apparently oil the point of being settled without the producers being consulted. He considered that all agreed the commandeer must continue, but that producers should bo represented by a standing advisory committee to assist in the many knotty points certain to arise in considering the relative 'nter, ests of freezing companies and producers.

Mr. Powdrell sketched briefly ths history of the negotiations with the Government leading up to the commandeer and the conditions under which the companies were working with the Imperial Government. He said, in conclusion, that ha considered it was only right and fair that the producers should have representation wade to the Government.

After soveral other representatives had spoken, the chairman said it was clearly proved .that it was necessary for producers to have a voice in the arrangements. Eventually a resolution was cat,.'-' that a committee of five should be set up, with power to add, and that they appoint delegates to interview the Minister. The following were elected: Messrs O. ITawkeii, T. A. Winks, J. R. Corrigan, T. W. Owen, and George Prcece. It was also resolved that the Minister be asked to meet representatives of this committee as early as can be arranged.—Star.
