COMMANDEERED MEAT.
TELEGRAM FOR THE MINISTER. The following is a eppy of a telegium received in reply to a telegram sent to the Minister by Mr Hawken conveying the resolution passed at the meeting of meat producers in Hawera on Thursday last:— "0. Hawken, Esq., Hawera.—Received your telegram re meat requisition. Do you personally as a grower object to the extension? I should be glad it you would advise me. It is impossible 'for me at this stage to get in touch with producers individually. If you can arrange representatives of producers to met me within coming week, I will withhold despatching any resolution eon. cerning subject to Prime Minister. 1 approached the only bodies whom as Minister I could get into touch with producers. Some freezing, companies are certainly proprietary, but there are many others which are farmers' companies, and are thoroughly representative of producers. \ r ou will understand that in matters of this kind I can only deal with representative bodies and not with the producers individually. I should be glad to receive any further suggestions you may care to Bake.—D. H,
