VETERANS' ASSOCIATION.

ANNUAL MEETING, The. annual meeting of the New Plymouth branch of the New Zealand Veterans' Association was held at the Soldiers' Club on Saturday. Mr. G. P. Robinson occupied the chair, and there were about 18 members present. The treasurer's statement showed receipts totalling £8 lis 4d, and a balance in hand of IBs 4d. In moving the adoption of the statement., the chairman referred to the number of meetings held during the year. In December last three of the oldest members of the association had been entertained to tea; also the veterans had attended the funeral of their late comrade, Mr. J. Skinner. In January there had been a church parade and a meeting, at which photographs were presented to the three old comrades who had been previously entertained, and, later, a meeting had been held at which a copy of the photographs of the three old veterans was presented to the New Plymouth Soldiers' Club. On the occasion of the anniversary, a church parade waß held at St. Mary's, and an afternoon tea gathering was also held. On Anzac Day the veterans had been guests at a social gathering tendered to returned soldiers and veterans at the Soldiers' Club by the Women's Patriotic Committee. A number of veterans had also attended the Turuturumoki gathering at Hawera on July 12. He further stated that roll of the Acal branch now numbered SO, but he regretted that 21 had not paid their subscriptions for the past year. That was not a very satisfactory state of affairs especially considering the membership was a continually decreasing one. . ' I The motion was seconded by Colonel Ellis and carried. It was pointed out that from a recent afternoon tea entertainment there was a balance of 19s in hand, and it was decided to keep the amount separate from the general account as a nucleus of an entertainments' fund. Some discussion took place on the matter of unpaid subscriptions and it was decided to make some effort to secure the payment of the same. One of the members asked the association to assist him to secure relief, as he was not entitled to a pension in consequence of not having been actually under fire. He pointed out that he had had no choice in the service he had had to render, and thought he was entitled to some help in lieu of the pension. The chairman pointed but that the law prevented anyone who had not been under fire from receiving a pension and there were many others in exactly the same position. It was decided to approach the member for the district, with a view to having the matter remedied. The election of officers resulted as fol-lows:—Vice-president, Mr. G. P. Robinson; delegates to Wellington Conference, Messrs T. Humphries nnd M. Ardern; secretary, Mr. J. Black; treasurer, Mr. G. A. Adlam; auditor, M-. W. D. Webster; committee. Messrs G. A. Adlam, H. Newland, 0. Oxenham, J. Kenyon, J. Andrews, W. F, Brookine, And T. Lister. Votes of thanks were passed to th» officers for their services during the past year, to which Mr. G. P. Robinson replied.
