Swedish reports state that the Bolsheviks have suspended private communication between Russia and Britain. —Press Assoc. 8 THE CZECHO-SLOVAKS. . DEFEAT THE GERMANS IN UKRAINE. AMNESTY! BY AUSTRIA REFUSED* Received August 8, 8.10- p.m. Washington, August 7, : Captain Hurgan, reporting to the Czeeho -Slovak National Council here, i.states that the Czechs defeated theGermans in the Ukraine fighting. ' After the Brest-Litovsk treaty was the Austrian Emperor offered them an amnesty, but they refused t» surrender. After escaping from the Ukraine, they at first maintained friendly relations with the Bolsheviks, but, later, were compelled to fight them at Irkutsk. Thousands of Bolsheviks surrounded a Czech train, firing machine--guns. Four hundred Czechs leapecfe from- the train, and put the entire force of Bolsheviks to flight.—Press Assoc.
