EMPLOYMENT OF YOUTHS. IN THE- ALLIES' ARMIES. Received July 31, 7.50 p.m. London, July 30. In the House of Commons, Mr. J. I. Macpherson (Parliamentary Secretary to the War Office) stated that the youngest of the French eks a called up for service averaged 29 years; Italy was employing youths of 18; while Britain held lads of 18y 2 in readiness owing to the emergency, but the Army Council was considering their withdrawal from the line.
WARNING TO GERMANY. AGAINST BARBAROUS METHODS. London, July 30. The Mini&try of Information snys that the question whether Germany is »oniemplating some fresh barbarous innovation is suggested by their persistent allegations that the British are using unlawful bullets. Germany recently protested to Via British Goverment with reference to this matter- The Foreign Office, in its reply, ehewed that the protest was absolutely uiijusiitied. The Briton Government knows that a German accusation of this kind is usually advanced u an excuse for some prepared and concerted violation of the laws and customs of war.
The Foreign Office has notified Germany that any fresh outrage will be met with prompt and stern reprisals.—Aus. and N.Z. Cable Assoc, and Reuter. RECORD WAR CREDIT. London, July 30. Mr Bonar Law proposes to introduce, on August 1, a war credit of 700 millionj, which U the largest in the history of thu eoutnry, making the total credits 8042 millions.—Times.
