SCHOOL COMPETITIONS.

ARRANGEMENTS IN PROGRESS',. A meeting of sub-committees appointed by?, the three town schools to make arrangements for competitions in reading, recitation, and singing, was held on Monday evening in the Technical School; There were present: Mr.. W.. G. Reid (who was voted to the chair), Mrs. Bowling, Messrs A. H. Stratford, 0. Johnson, A. Smart, G. H. Dolby, F. Coleman, E. Bary,, and W. Howarth. An apology was received for the absence of Mr. S. G. Smith.

It was decided to hold competitions in the Good Templar Hall on August 28 and' 20, entries to close on August 21. It was decided to have competitions 'in reading, recitation, humorous recitation, and solo singing, in three classes according to age, and duet singing without restriction ap to age. The head teachers of the schools will make, the preliminary selection of competitors, who will be further reduced to two in each class by the judges, the final result to be decided at the public, competitions.. Only children at present attending schools may compete.

It was decided to ask Messrs. P. W. G. McLeod and G. H. Wliifa to act as judges of the singing, and Messrs A. H. Johnstone and G.. H. Dolby as judges of reading and recitation.
