ALARM AT EMPIRE PREFERENCE. Amsterdam, July 28. The British decision to adopt Empire preference has deeply impressed Germany. ■The Vorwaerts says: "This is one of the most important actions taken during the war. Apart from its economic importance, it must have a lasting political effect with the gravest consequences for Germany. The decision proves that Greater Britain is in very much closer unity than the Germans ever thought possible. The British Empire will be strengthened extraordinarily, and Germany h therefore in great danger of being ousted from her best markets.—Aus. N.Z. Cable Assoc. AUSTRIA REJECTS UKRAINE TREATY. Amsterdam, July 2S. Count Burian, speaking in the Reichsrath, said he intended to refuse to ratify the Ukraine peace treaty, as the Ukraine was again striving for union with Russia.—Aus. X.Z.
