INGLEWOOD.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Inglewood, July 23.

There was a very large att?ndance at Kaimata on Thursday evening to welcome home Quartermaster-Sergeant J. Capper and Private \V. Eraeegirdle. Visitors were present from all parts of the district, as well as from New Plymouth, Stratford, and Inglewood. The function took tlie form of a dance, and as ideal weather prevailed for such amusement, the floor was packed from first to last dance. The duties of M.'sC were carried out by Messrs G. Peters and L. Boeock. who kept things going merrily throughout. Mr. C. Young, Mayor of Inglewood, on behalf of the friends of I the guests, presented each with a gold medal, suitably inscribed. His Worship congratulated each soldier on returning safely home after nearly four years of service to the Empire, and expressed the pleasure and pride it gave him to be asked to welcome them home. Sergeant Capper was also'presented with a case of pipes which was to have been presented to him before he left. Miss Miller was then called upon to pin the medals on the breasts of ih.q recipients, after which hearty cheers were given, and the boys suitably replied. A public meeting lias been called by the Mayor for Monday next to submit details of the proposed loan of £9OOO for eleetrieafl extension purposes Mr. Browne, of the Education Department, paid at visit to Inglewood to-day, and at the request of the School Committee inspected the grounds, with a view to giving advice on the matter of laying out same. He also inspected the holly hei'ge (the pride of tho committee), which has contracted a fungus blight, but he thinks the hedge will take no serious harm.
