AGRICULTURAL INSTRUCTION.

IN THE TARANAKI DISTRICT. Mr. R. A. S- Browne (Director of Agricultural !EducatU>n for Tariwaki) reported to yesterday's meeting as follows; —The past four weelcs lias been a period of very 'broken weather, and this has interfered greatly with tho work ol instruction, and also with attendances at some of our classes. Primary schools visited were: Lcpperton, Cell Block, Eltlura Carrington, Oaonui, Rahotu, Korito, Kent, Oraata, Warea, I'i'.iigareliu, Rahotu, Opunake (2), Jhaia, Tataraimaka, Hillsborough, Tarurutaiigi, Central (2), Fitzroy, Courtenay Street, Pihair.a, Puniho, Okato, Radnor, Tuna, Dudley and Kaimiro. Farmers' classes: Visits were paid to Warea, Raljptu, Kina, Ihaia, Opunake, and Patea. Technical College and D.H.S. classes: These continue as previously. With other classes these have been interfered with by continued wet weather, go far as outdoor work is concerned. Advani tage was taken of the shows at New Plymouth and Fawera to get in a fooii deal of instruction of a valuable nature'. Improvements to grounds: It is pleasing to be able to record a very distinot movement on tho part of cofirouttees, teachers, and pupils in the direction of grounds' improvements. (food work has been recently done at Lepperton, Warea, liahotu and Opunake. Propagation of hedge plants, etc.: A satisfactory amount of hedge plant propagation is being done in our schools. Of the schools inspected this month, Lepperton, Bell Block, Omata and Warea have shown up well in this respect. Central has distributed a very large number of buttings of roses, sJirulbs, etc. A special effort is being made b? distribution of seed to encourage coastal school? to grow wind-loving plants as nolmhtkawa, karo, etc., in suitable Situations. Teachers' classes: These continue at Stratford and at Now Plymouth. Owing to the small attendance, I "propose to discontinue tho latter shortly, capeclai-V ly as no one teacher attending thsteat intends to take the subject for cxamina* tion.
