A French" communique states:— Starting from Ambleny, Longpont, Frbesnes and Bouresches we considerably advanced into tKe enemy's linea and reached the plateau commanding Soissons on the south-west and the jegion of Chudili. Violent fighting is going on between } Villers-S'helong and Noroy-sur-Ourcq. f The troops south of Oureq have pass- - ed the general line Maritzy-Ste Gene- ■ Vieve-Hautevesnes-Belleau. Over 20 villages have been recaptured and several thousand prisoners and important booty taken.. 4 ''• • Nothing important- is taking place elsewhere. t An American communique reports:— 1 American troops co-operating with the French between the Aisne and the JVTarne penetrated the enemy lines to a depth of several miles, capturing many prisoners and guns.—Aus. N.Z. Cable Assn. Washington, July 10. General Marsh' announfces that the Americans fighting on the Aisne do not exceed 160,000. The Allies have planned a greater drive later in the war-Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. ! London, July 19. ' A French communique states that ! after breaking the German offensive on the fronts Champagne-Montagne -de Rheims on the 15th, 16th and 17th, the French, in conjunction with American troops, on the 18th, advanced to attack the German positions hetween the Aisne ' and the Marne, on a front of forty-five ! kilometres.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. and Reuter. " London, July 19 A wireless German official message says: —The enemy renewed his attacks with great violence eastward of Villersf Bretonneux. A great united enemy counter-attack against our .whole front southward of the Marne broke down with the heaviest losses. Our counter-attack threw the enemy out of the small places south-westward i' of Moreuil into which he had temporare ily penetrated. We stormed the ridge - southward of Pourcy, capturing the det fenders.
