Owing to an attack of inlluenza, Mr. :11. Masters was unable to take part in tho 1 . debate on the education system, Wltjcii was to have boon held at the Club last night, and had to b« postponed. Thir. evening a party from the club arc visiting the Ellham Club to participate in a card tournament there. Mr. A. C. Bell, who ia leaving shortly to work at Hamilton, is being kept busy lately being farewelled by friends. Recently lie was tendered a social evening by the Anglican Church authorities find presented with a. photograph of officials, staff, and scholars of St. Mary's School. .Vow, the A- and P. executive have had him "'lined up for judgment," and lie had lo listen to many eulogistic remarks. ■Mr. Boon spoke in appreciation of hi? work or the association, Mr. Campbell Jackson added variety by stating that whilst both were in opposition as land agents, he always found Mr. Hell a conscientious and honorable man Mr. R. Masters mentioned the untiring efforts of their .departing comrade in church matters, and also the interest he took in St. Marys School. Mr. Lennell also addressed a few remarks that -were appropriate to the occasion, and then Mr. Bell found himself the owner of a goldtuminted fountain pen. and, in acknowledging the gifr, expressed his pleasurr at learning thai his work during his stay in Stratford had been appreciated. The Stratford C'nrd Club carried too many guns or "bowers'" for their opponents, as. with only one match to go. they have an unbeaten record, tiieir last visitors (CardilT) 6 ueeiimbins- by 0 sanies in last nkdit's fixtures. AYet weather and cold, icy blasts made moving out last night anything but a pleasure, so it was not surprising that the attendance of dancers was limited at the dance held at Midhirst. last evening by the Stratford branch of the Returned Soldiers' Association. Mr. J. IT. Bennet, made a very satisfactory M.C., whilst Miss A. Anderson, proved a capable musician at the piano. The annual meeting of the Presbyterian Church disclosed a vcrv healthv state of finances, and all the =eciion le ports show' good results. Dear >s for the ensuing year were as follow:—Afcssrs AA'iekham, Lawrence. Arthur, Siilc, Patrick, Peftigrew. Long. Aylward. Smart, Ross, North, and Blizzard. The gross amount collected during the year was over :C8(l0. and a further sum of .CI? - ! realised by Mr. H. Rose made it approximately €10(10. Refreshments were supplied by the lady members present. The Ladies' Patriotic Committee are launching (he Copper Trail, and durins the next few weeks the results should be apparent. They have secured the permission of the Education Board to place collection boxes in the schools in the neighborhood, and later on these will be placed in all the schools and cleared weekly or monthly, the contents 'being forwarded to AA'ellington. It is des'ircd that, the appeal should be known as in aid of the Red Cross funds. The intention of the ladies is to place these boxes in hotels, clubs, and other meet-ing-places. There are many visitors to Stratford who make no mistake, in that whenever they arc- in search of jewellery, fancy goods, Doulton ware, immediately make their purchases at C. E. .Tames' warfhouse. The proprietor has recently made large, additions to his stock, and is offering same to the public at. prices that defy competition.
