RED CROSS FUNDS.
The secretary of the Wellington Copper Trail challenge informs the local Red Cross sub-centre of the progress of the trail up to July 8, when the relative positions .were: —Auckland to Te Awamutu, 100 miles; Wellington to Paraparamu, 35 miles- It now behoves our fighting party to make strenuous efforts to pull up this difference, so that when the next weekly report is made a decided spurt on the part of our military district (Wellington) may be announced. The Red Cross Mart will, on Saturday, be under the management of Section A of the committee. Gifts of vegetables, fniit and flowers, home-made bread and cakes, eggs, honey, butter, cooked meats, etc., etc., all gratefully received. The Mart will he open on Friday afternoon and evening to receive gifts and to purchasers from 9 a.m. til! 4 p.m. on Saturday. Tlie committee of the local branch of the British Red Cross would be very grateful for gift% of empty jam or jelly jars for refilling. Several kind friends have offered to supply marmalade if jav» are available- These may be left at the Red Cross rooms in Queen Street on any afternoon but Thursday, or at the Red Cross Mart, in Devon Street, on Friday afternoon or on Saturday. For the convenience of purchasers, it has been resolved that the Red Cross Mart should be opened at 9 a.m. on Saturdays instead of 9.30 as heretofore.
