THE I.W.W. ARREST.
SENSATIONAL ALLEGATIONS AGAINST THE POLICE, Received July 12, 1.55 am. i Sydney, July 11. Recent endeavors of certain members of the Assembly to obtain a new trial of the I.W.W. prisoners and the rejection of a motion to appoint a Royal Commission, culminated in sensational allegations. Brookfield stated that new evidence had come to light, based on a written statement by Scully, a Crown witness, in which he alleged the Government promised him two thousand pounds to secure evidence to convict the I.W-W. men. Two constables asked Scully to place cotton waste in the pocket of one of the I.W.W. members. The police prepared the evidence which was handed to Scully, and which he was told to learn. The Government actually paid Scully threii hundred pouJids. Brookfield further alleged thafcthe case was a "frame up" on the part of the police. One material witness died under mysterious circumstances, which \era never cleared up. If Scully left, no other witness would prove the case, against the policeA sensational uproar ensued when it transpired that Scully had left the coun4ry last month.—Press Assoc.
