ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
ACCIDENT IN A QUARRY. By Telegraph,—Press Association. Dnnedin, Last Night. At an inquest on the body of James Colton (aged 42), who died on Tuesday as the result of injuries sustained in a fall of rock at Shela's quarry last week, the evidence showed that Harrison, foreman ,of the quarry, made an inspection before the work started on the day of the accident, finding everything right. Half a dray load of material fell about 30 feet, striking Colton. The coroner said the evidence showed that even if all possible care had been taken, working on the face of the quarry was attended by danger. There was evidence that the accident arose through non-observance of the regulations under the Stone Quarries Act, but it was not advisable for him to say more about that then. A verdict that death was due to injuries sustained by being struck on the head by stone falling from a quarry face, was returned.
