ROYAL LIFE-SAVING SOCIETY.
<*. MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the .committee of the North Taranaki Head Centre of the Royal Life-Saving Society was held last night, the president (Mr. D. J. Hughes) being in the chair. A copy of the minutes of the last meeting of the Dominion executive was received, in which reference was made to the new drill for the promotion of warmth, which, however, has already been adopted by the local centre. It was decided, in reply to an enquiry, that candidates for the Award of Merit must perform the breast stroke correctly in their examination. The minutes referred to the good work done by the Taranaki Centre, which would produce great results in the future. The executive's balance of assets over liabilities was £OS 10s. The concert committee presented a report showing a balance to the credit of the centre of £5. The centre's representative on the Dominion executive (Mr. B. S. Knox) wrote stating that he had to go into camp on October 7, and asking that someone be appointed in his place.—The matter was deferred in the meantime. A letter was received from the chief secretary of the society in London, acknowledging receipt of the secretary's letter, and congratulating the centre on its work and progress. Votes of thanks were passed to the concert committee, the performers, to I Mr. Hassell for the use of flags, and to Mr. Hoffmann for the use of piano. It was decided to hold the annual meeting on August 29, at the Soldiers' Club, and to make an effort to get in outstanding subscriptions before that date.
