A resolution was adopted tha,t the clubs in each, xnetro.polit;an district affiliated with the assty:iation appoint one delegate each to be Mid act as local branches of the asso?ition. A resolution was also §dopjted. protesting against the Conference appointing racecourse defectives at high cost, the association considering that such appointments should remain in the hands of the clubs. • The election of officers resulted:— President, Mr. A. Bruce; vice-president, Air. J. F. Finney (both re-elected); ex. ccutivc, Messrs E- W- Alisqu and H. H. Hayr (North Island), D. J. Evans and Patterson (South Island), TROTTING CONFERENCE. Wellington, July 10, After the election of the officers at the Trotting Conference, the chairman referred to the expressed intention of Mr. Selig to retire at the end of the season from an active interest in trotting control, after 21 years' presidency of the Trotting Association, and moved a motion expressive of appreciation of his services, and hoping he would see his way to continue his position. Mr. Gore, vice-president, endorsed the remarks, and said no cne had done more for trotting than Mr. Selig. Mr Roberts, member of the executive, followed in the sam» strain The motion was carried unanimously with acclamation. Mr. Selig replied at length, and said he had fully intended making this his last year, but with such a unanimous voto of confidence and requests from the clubs, he would consider the matter on his return to Christelrarch. FURTHER CURTAILMENT OF RACING. (Our Special Correspondent.) AVellington, July 9. A warning about the danger of further curtailment of Taring in Now Zealand was given by the chairman of the Country Clubs' Association at the annual meeting this evening. Mr. A. Bruce said he had been told by "a high authority" that unless the clubs watched their interests very carefully there would be a complete stoppage of racing after this year until s is months after the declaration of peace. "Keep your eye on the wowser," added the chairman, feelingly. "He has got his eye on you, and he is Teady to take advantage of every favoring breeze. It was through listening to the wowser, to some extent. thaJ we lost racing days last year, and if it had not been for some racing men who worked hard to protect the clubs, we would have lost one-half of the days instead of onethird." Member* of the association did not think that the ways of the wowser in relation to racing ought to be discussed publicly at ths present time, and the matter was allowed to drop.
