MILITARY SERVICE.
APPEALS AT HAWERA. The First Wellington Military Service Board resumed its sittings in Hawera on Friday. The following appeals were adjourned: John W. Simmons, Tarata; .lacob E Meuli, Okaiawa; James 11. Ashton, Stratford; Frederick G. Adlaui, Normanby; Harry Catchpole, Mokoia; F. E. Jago, Waitotara; Wm. A. Davidson, Otakeho; Frederick J. Bowling, Tariki; Wm. i D. Knowles, Midhirst. I Decision was reserved sine die in the followj ing cases: C. Harrison, Hawera; John L. Taylor, Lowgarth; Wm. C. Bes'cy, H'lrlovville; Arthur Laugdon, Hawera ; W. A. Stybs, Ngaere ; Wm. J. Byrne, Tariki. Tho appeal of John Valentine Hall, farmer, Inalewood —a class C reservist —was allowed. William Crawford, cheese factory manager, Inaha, for whom Mr. O'Dea appeared, appealed on the ground of public interest. The appeal was supported by the company, and sine die exemption was allowed. John Carruthers, farmer, Whakamara, who did nut appear, had his appeal dismissed. Alfred Barlow, beef exporter, Stratford, for whom Mr. Stanford appeared, asked for time to enable him to dispose of some stock which he bad at present on hand. Leave was granted until the October draft. The adjourned appeal of William Alfred' Styles, dairy farmer, Ngaere, was further re- \ iewed. Decision was reserved. Hugh Kenneth Riley, working farm manager, Ratupiko, appealed on the ground of public interest. Appellant stated that he was working manager for Air. James Hair, on a sheep and cattle farm of 1 ITS acres. Appellant was the only man on the place. The appeal was dismissed. The chairman stated that as the reservist did not go into camp until September this would give Mr. Hair sufficient time to find another man. The adjourned appeal of CaTrington Harrison, farmer, Hawera, was further reviewed. Mr. O'Dea appeared for the appellant, who put in a statement showing the liabilities in connection with his farms. Decision was reserved. John William Simmons (Tarata) appeared before the board and said he wished to with-, draw his appeal. The request was granted, with leave until the October draft.
