CONSCIENTIOUS OBJECTORS.
DEPUTATION WAITS ON DEFENCE MINISTER. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, July ,t. Replying to a deputation .of lie , Fed* sration of Labor re conscientious objectors, Sir James Allen reiterated hla statement that counsel might be employed in any case where the magistrate thought it necessary. He adhered, to his opinion that the inquiry should not be open to the public. The magistrate had been instructed to interview the men in Wanganui, or wherever they may be, and test their statements to the fullest extent. Regarding conscientious objectors who have been sent Home, >Sir James Allen said he could see no reason why these men should be brought tack, because if they were brought back it would be an obvious admission that the Oownmesßt was weak and was practMaUy way to pressure wheg it did not this* pressure was justiflaMe. He added thas the report of the magistrate tflft M made public.
