MILITARY SERVICE.

RESERVISTS' APIPEALS. The First Wellington Military Service Board resumed its sittings in Hawera on Thursday. The adjourned appeal of Frederick George Chisnall, farmer, Manaia, was further reviewed.—Former sine die decision adhered to. Charles O'Reilly, farmer, Ngutuwera, had his appeal re-heard. Appellant said he was at present from camp on special leave, and he showed_ that his position had changed materially since he went into camp. He now had no one to look after his farm.—The board's former decision was rescinded, and it recommended that the reservist be granted indefinite leave. Edward Gopperth, dairy farmer, Kaimiro, for whom Mr.O'Dea appeared, appealed on the grounds of public interest and undue hardship. Appellant gave evidence that he was milking 36 cows on 140 acres. Appellant was of German nationality on both sides.—ln view of appellant's last statement, tha chairman said it was little use proceeding further with the case, as it was one which would be reported 'upon. Francis Thomas Oliver, dairy farmer, Alton, appealed on the ground of public interest- Appellant was occupying a leasehold farm of S3 acres, on which he was milking 24 cows. Appellant did all the work, with the occasional assistance of his wife.—Captain Walker suggested that the time had now come when the country could not afford to allow a fit man to milk a few cows when this could | be carried on by somebody else.—Appellant said he suffered from ieumatism, and he doubted whether he would stand the camp life. He was over 40 years of age.—The board reserved its decision. The adjourned appeal of E. V. Sheerin, contractor, Manaia, for whom Mr. WDea appeared, was further reviewed. Counsel stated that the chairman of tlie VVaimate West Oounty Council had informed him that he could not support the appeal- He would suggest that tho appellant be given time to enable him to assist his partner with the contract.— The appeal was dismissed, with leave until Septetniber. Jessie Tod, sheep farmer, Kiore, appealed for her son, Charles Tod. Appellant deposed that her son did the work on the farm with the assistance of neighbors. Appellant's only other son was on active service.—Devision was reserved sine die. The adjourned appeal of Clarendon Block, dairy fanner, Eltham, was further reviewed. Appellant said he was quite willing to go to the front as soon as one of his other brothers returns from the front-'-Tormer sine die devision adhered to.
