BOWLING ASSOCIATION.
ANNUAL MEETING. Tho annual meeting of delegates of the Taranaki Bowling Association was held at Hawera on Thursday, Mr. S. J. Smith presiding. Delegates present were: Messrs. Sampson (Waitnr.a), .1. 1\ Rurton (Opunakc), llenson and Robertson (Jlawera), McMillan and McDonald (Stratford), J. J). Solo (Wast End), A. SmaTt iui(i W. Brooking (New I'lymouth), F. Jackson (t'ltzroy), W. Lambie (Pihama), and tho secretary (Mr. 0. Firth). Tho report and balance-sheet, which has already been published, was read and adopted. The election of officers resulted: President, Mr. R. Lambio; vice-president, Mr. J. D. Sole; committee, F. Fackson (Fitzroy), F. J. Hill (West Had), W. Percival (Inglewood), W. McDonald (Stratford), A. Smart (Now Plymouth), and W. Lambio ('Pihama); secretary and treasurer, Mr. 0. Firth (re-elected); auditor, Mr. W, Ewing (re-elected). A good deal of discussion ensued as to whether the banner system of competition should continue as last year, or whether it should be section play. Stratford, Hawera and Pihama delegates favored the system of last year continuing, tho Stratford delegates finding the arrangement much preferable to that of the previous year, when they were pitted against Hawera and Eltham only. The other delegates were somewhat divided on the matter, some favoring reverting back to the section competition. The president thought in the interests of the country clubs they might continue the play as last season, whon they had many j pleasant outings, even if the North Taranaki clubs did a little more travelling. No decision was arrived at on the matter, but clubs will be circularised, and the individual views of club members ascertained. Regarding the New Year tournament at New Plymouth, some comment was made on the desirability of holding pairs or singles championships, as well as full-rink games. It was pointed out that at that period of the year there is generally a large number of visitors In New Plymouth who prolonged their holiday, and would favor further play in this direction. The committee was instructed to consider the question when drawing up the tournament programme.
The Buster tournament will be held at Stratford and Inglowood as usual. Regarding patriotic play, it was decided that fees collected for this purpose be all placed under tho one heading, and form a bowlers' fund to bo handed to the Taranaki War Relief Association. During the season the*sum of £B3 had been placed to the credit of the War Relief Association, and a further £7 7s was vtoed out of the tournament profits. The next annual meeting will be held at Inglewood. Thanks wore expressed to the Hawera Club' for hospitality, to the retiring officers for their work during the year, Mr. S. J. Smith suitably acknowledging the vote.
