RAISING TEACHERS' SALARIES. Received July I, 11-20 -p.m. Sydney, July I Forthcoming estimates include a hun-> drcd thousand pounds to raise school teachers' salaries from a minimum of £133 to £l5O. In view of this and other new expenditure further taxation may be anticipated, but the form it will take has not yet been decided.
STUD SHEEP SAI.ES.

At the stud sheep sales bidding was dull, buyers being cautious. With the exception 'of Havilah merino ram, which fetched three hundred guineas, the prices were the lowest for several years. Romney Marsh ewes, on behalf of Sutherland, averaged £3 17s; Corriedale stud rams, on behalf of Leonard AVhite (Rakaia), averaged £8 ISa 6d; owes averaged £7 17s. A Deniliquin stud ram was sold privately for 2500 guineas.
SUPPRESSING SEDITION.
Sydney, July 1
Mr. Holman, addressing tho first conference of the National Association, said the Government intended to introduce a more effective law to denl with sedition. Fines and imprisonment were useless. The punishment proposed was to disqualify offenders from holding any public position, •whether municipal « political, for life.
