RED CROSS MART.

ST. MAimS DAY, J . [ A PINE RECORD. The display at the Red Cross Mart oa Saturday morning, when operations commenced at 9.30, under the direction of a committee of the parishioners of St. Mary's, was one of the most abundant and attractive that has ever been seen. The large supplies of dressed poultry, butter, cheese, and the home-made delicacies that usually form a conspicuous part of the stock-in-trade, augured well for a good day's business. Amongst the supplies were some beau-tifully-iced cakes, and in connection with these a competition was conducted. The first prize (6s) was won by Mrs. Knight, and the second 4s) by Miss Croo'ke, both of whom handed back the amounts won. There was also a beautiful display ol sweets which had been sent from the public hospital. In addition to the Wart shop, there were outside, on the footpath, a flower stall, produce stall, and jumble stall, and (ill did their quota in reaising the grand total of the day's takings. A special display of fancy goods, contributed by the members of St- Mary's Guild and their friends, was made in the vacant shop adjoining Messrs ETallenstein Bros., who kindly gave the use of the premises for the day. The variety of the articles offered for sale was wide indeed, and their number was legion. One conspicuous feature in the window display was a Ibeautifully-made set of doll's furniture, the work of Mr. O. Deacon.

All the arrangements indicated elaborate and careful preparations, designed to accomplish what the parishioners of St. Mary's set out to do—best all previous records —and it was not surprising, therefore, that the aim was achieved. An incalculable amount of work had been compassed in preparation for the final effort on Saturday, and it was with a feeling of intense gratitude, mingled with a pride which was not without justification, that the grand total of £223 was announced. Following are the details of the takings:— I £ s. 3.
