TURF TOPICS. (By "Moturoa.") Concluding day at Hastings. Wellington weights are due on Monflay. C. Emerson was discharged from camp this week. Welcome Nugget was a much discussed neddy yesterday. Art <s coming on fast now, and should be worth following. Winning riders amongst the trotters: A. Prlngle 20, J. Bryce 18. Almoner Is not likely to be takes to Sydney for the A J.C. Derby. Trainer J. Bryce has nearly fifty trotters and pacers under his care at the present time. Somebody with an appetite for statistics has worked out that eighteon trotters recorded one win, one start, this season. "Paddy" Eva has settled down in Tauherenlkau, and has Form Up, Warmth and Livland in hand. The trio will race at Trentham. Braeburn's record: 59 starts, 13 firsts, 13 second. and 8 thirds. Stake winnings, £3465. Coalition Is jumping big country proficiently at Trentham, and there will be no fitter horse stepped out at the Trentham and Iticcarton meetings.
Vacuum has gone into winter quarters, and will not be raced again until the spring. He is no good in the mud. Alfonso Attwood is back again la his old quarters at Felldlng, and has Waipunoa in work. H. Raynor has taken up an outlaw by Manlapoto—Waddy. This gelding was sent over to 'Stralla, but after proving intractable was returned with thanks. Wanganul trainers do not envy Raynor's Job. Wanganui lost one of Its old-time crosscountry riders the other day In the person of Donald Macdonald, who was found dead, hanging from the stirrup of his horse. He was at one time clerk of the course at Wanganui. With the idea of decreasing tho fields and eliminating the "rubbish" from the various events the Wellington Racing Club increased the distances of several races to be run at next month's meeting. A glance at the nominations suggests the idea that the club's good Intentions have been resultless.
