AiffIEALS HOB TEACHERS. Press Association. Wellington, June 25. The Second Wellington Military Service Board to-day considered applications for the exemption, of two teachers at Banks College. The chairman (Mr. Poynton) said that our reconstruction ftftcr the war must be founded on education. The Germans were not sending school teachers to the front and, notwithstanding their terrific financial obligations, were increasing expenditure on education. They recognised the value of education, and it was essential that our young men should he efficiently trained. Decision in both cases was reserved sine die. BFEECT OF BW, EOTKHSCBS. Auckland, June 25. A boy under 15 years, employed in a, large city shop, appeared at the Police Court charged witiT having attempted to obtain money ib-y unlawful means. IHe had pestered one of his employer's customers, a lady well known in society, by ringing her up at the telephone, when he proposed she should meet him by appointment. Acting on advice, the lady agreed, the hoy choosing the Domain as the rendezvolis. At the time appointed he found a detective waiting for him. Ho admitted he had a revolver, not loaded, and that he had hoped to intimidate the lady into parting with some money. . The Magistrate said the boy had evidently been influenced by trashy literature. He was committed to Weracoa training farm.
