SLAVS ON STRIKE.

ARREST OR INTERNMENT THREATENED. By Telegraph.—Press Association Taumarunui, June 22. Forty Slavs, sent by Commissioner Culten to work on the Stratford railway, between the Okatu tunnel and Matiere, struck work to-day, objecting to the Department's piecework payment. "The rate of pay is fair, and the men are comfortable. The Slavs have been warned that unless they immediately start work they will be arrested or Interned. Auckland, last Night. A/bout sixty Jugo-Slavs, engaged in draining at Awanui, refused duty until a man who had been discharged was reinstated. The man was given anotflwt chance, and work was resumed
