♦ (From' Our Own Correspondent.) Eltham, June 19. There was a good attendance of the public at the railway station to farewell the latest recruits, for the Expeditionary Forces Previous to the men entraining, the Mayor (Mr T. B Crump) touched on the present aspect of the war, which, he B aid, was as well as could be expected under the circumstances. He hoped that those leaving that morning would have a safe and pleasant journey over and in due course be permitted to return sound ic health and limb and with the knowledge that they had done their duty. The men leaving were:— E. Phillips, J L. Catley, W. C Gill, C W Cook, Stewart and W. J. Walsh. At the call of the Mayor, cheers were given for the me n as the train steamed away. It was a good move of the School Committee to get theladies interested in the work The series of euchre tournaments now being conducted, on, behalf a* til* school funds have caught on, and, carrying a Government .subsidy, should prove a very valuable source of revenue. Mrs Scown is leading for the points' prize, but has little to come and go on, the margin ibeing very small Prizes are being donated by Mesdames J L Campbell and H. G. Carman, and Messrs L. Hill and C. B. Martin. The takings up to the present are in the neighborhood of £lB. There are indications that thq chairman (Mr I J Bridgerl and his committee will have a good financial year, as it is intended to hold a picture benefit later on. Visitors to Eltham, while moving along Bridge Street east, all pull up to admire the new ferro-concrete (building now in course of construction. The building, when completed, will be a handsome addition to the town, and should be relished by those interested. It is the Men's Club, and the result of the efforts of the C.E.M.S. members, who out" and found their efforts so well received by the general public that the memlbership had gone up considerably. Returned soldiers are always and at first are admitted free, but after six months are charged a small fee. Mr. Harvey, of the railway clerical staff, i s the present secretary and an ideal man for the position.
